Advice on taking great iPhone photos

Thanks to @jesslynn01 for contributing the first post in our series on taking great iPhone photos! Be sure to check out her gallery at: instacanv.as/jesslynn01.

We asked you, our beloved, Instacanvas users what your best tips were for taking great iPhone photos. Here was Jesse’s advice. Be sure to leave a comment and let us know where you agree, disagree, or what related advice you have!

Take pictures of something you are passionate about

When you are passionate about something you are doing it shows in your work. I have a few favorite places I love to go when I’m really in the mood to explore and take quality pictures. They include abandoned barns, our local lakes and rivers, and flower gardens.

Always be ready

That is one thing I love about taking photos with my iPhone. It’s always with me. Within a matter of seconds I am able to open my camera and start snapping away.
You never know when inspiration is going to come! There have been many times when I have looked up into the sky and have seen the clouds and sun line up for the perfect picture, or something that happens quickly like a butterfly fluttering by, or a rainbow after the storm.

Patience

There have been times when I have taken MANY pictures of the same object to get the perfect picture. It can be frustrating, but in the end it pays off.

Stop and Look Around

It always seems like when I slow down and take my time I notice the little things I would have missed otherwise.

Apps

There are thousands of photo apps out there! Use them every once in a while!
Apps like snapseed, camera+, picfx, color splash, lens flare, lens light, and retouch can do wonders for photos that need just a little oomph. (but don’t over edit the photos, unless that is the effect you are going for.)

Don’t be afraid to go outside of your comfort zone

Amazing things can happen when you try new things! You can learn new techniques or find a new favorite photo spot.

Use tripods and or lenses made for iPhones

I personally haven’t used either, but the people that do use iPhone photo eqimment have amazing photos!

Experiment

Take photos from different or unusual angles. It catches the eye of other photographers, and makes your photo stand out.

Have a group of friends to talk to that share a passion for photography

It’s always nice to be able to get inspiration and share ideas with friends. They can help you out when your are in a ‘photo funk’ or give you helpful tips to make you even better at taking photos.

Join or follow groups on instagram that do photo challenges

They inspire us to do our best, get extremely creative, and have a great time taking photos!

Only use YOUR photos

Do not steal or use a photo that you don’t have permission to use!

My final tip would be to have fun! It keeps you creative and inspired!
